Maybe there is no one who agrees the brutal violence aiming at innocent civilians. As someone in our class said, violence calls for another violence and the endless circle should be deteriorated. But if we look at on other side, Mr.Umarov’s purpose was somewhat accomplished. We could know the Chechenian situation. Mr.Umarov’s video was on air worldwide. We can notice Russian’s anger and Chechenians grief. Mr.Umarov tries to get support from Islamic countries announcing that his war is against Western Powers. But in my opinion, he’s just want be an emir of his territory for the justification of Sharia law. If we’d have enough opportunity to debate on the topic of Sharia based country, we could avoid these miserable conflicts.
What could be some other ways to gain Chechen’s freedom or independence? If Mr.Umarov is genuine leader of the area, he and his protégé need to prepare after independence. When we Koreans fought with Japan imperialist, we organized troops and on the other hands, our provisionary government leaders send young people aboard to take new technology or knowledge to rebuild our liberated nation. Mr.Umarov needs to learn from Korean history. Korean leaders sent envoys to powers summit, published many kinds of paper or books to inform world citizens the illegal invasion of imperial Japan. Violence could be a very effective way to give their message, but that has fatal weakness. Violence could earn more enemies than supports. And more important is that the one who doesn’t care his people’s lives can not be qualified as a leader.
